Falling on the blotter

Falling on the blotter
Past the fleas
My infested carpet
My foundation

Clawing at my door
Thinking of my fiancée
Her long teeth snapping
In the window above
Boiled eggs came to mind

I found this in a stack of papers. I think I wrote this a few years ago when I was living in my last apartment. Pretty weird.

Semester is almost over.

I'm happy that this semester is almost over. I'm not sure why but for some reason this semester was incredibly tiring. Last semester was so awesome that I was thoroughly disappointed when it came crashing to an end. I suppose that the rigor of chemistry, which I intensely enjoyed, and the mathematical aspect of it somehow made my thinking a bit less murky. It sounds strange, but I honestly think that the pursuit of an adequate knowledge in mathematics is an absolute necessity for any individual who endeavors to be a clear-thinking intellectual. I've resisted mathematics nearly my entire life, but after I finally gave in I learned that my intellectual stamina increased phenomenally. I also learned that I was never behind on anything; I always arrived to work and class early, I frequently had assignments nailed weeks before they were due, and I even had time to practice music and sleep by 11:00 every night. Perhaps my mistake this semester was that I did little to no mathematical exercise. I shall seek to remedy that deficiency whether or not I get into grad school and continue my education.

Arrest my body; arrest my mind.

I am horribly ill today. I think it's something to do with wretched humidity that seems to strike most foul in the dead of night. I'm not sure how that has contributed to my physical instability, but I do know that my well-being was not tainted until the rise in humidity arrested me. I don't like it at all. That certainly goes without saying.

Internet stupidity

If ever you are feeling nearly suicidal and can't quite rationalize your decision to bust a cap in your ass I'd suggest you look at news articles on sites that allow users to post comments on the stories. Here are a few I've collected just today.

"I love how the effects of all "Global Warming" are always negative. You never see the positive benefits, of which there are many."

"The average American is too stupid to understand any issue even when explained to them slowly, and that is the real problem. Why do you think the Tea Party exists? To recruit the ignorant!"

This comment was funny, but the poster assumes that the average American is of limited intelligence. The poster also brings up the Tea Party for no apparent reason other than to call them idiots. Personally, I happen to agree, but the story has nothing at all to do with Tea Baggers. Tea Baggers? Isn't that some sexual reference?

"The common sense approach is to vote these President Barack Hussein Obama pleasers out of office at our first opportunity. I want the United States to remain the United States. President Barack Hussein Obama campaigned for change, now let’s give him a political party change."

I'm not even sure that this guy read the article. Perhaps the title and a quote, but not much more.

"Tax tax tax......taxes get passed on....and the banks will not be allowed to fail....so the very obvious outcome is that rates will be raised to collect these tax increases, and the expense will be passed on to the Banks Customers....us.
Just another example of the Democrats disdain for the intelligence and wishes of the Ameerican People."

No evidence for his assertions and his argument is terribly fallacious.

"Maybe they should call it a tax for American's Pain and Suffering over the past few years. Bankers caused it, they should pay... but out of their own salaries!"

Navajo story time

Here's a story from the Navajo reservation. I lived there for a while when I was a kid. I wrote this in Word and copied it over to here so I'm not sure if the formatting will be ok or not. Not sure if my telling is even remotely accurate, but here goes.

In the beginning of mankind were first man and first woman. First man noticed that first woman was becoming increasingly irritable so he left her to herself for some time to sort through her problems. First woman left and washed herself in the river and came back to first man radiant, happy, and completely agreeable. First man didn’t question fist woman’s sudden change because he was so glad to see her back to, nay, even better than her normal self; instead, he rejoiced. For five days he rejoiced and treated her like a goddess.

On the sixth day when first man rose to kiss the rose-petal lips of first woman, she rolled over and resumed her irritable behavior from before. First man was completely distraught; he tore his hair, he kicked the earth, and he cursed the sky. He left first woman alone again and again after returning from bathing herself in the river she was happy, radiant, and, most importantly, agreeable. Again first man rejoiced and worshiped first woman as a goddess. He kissed the earth and he bowed deeply to the sky for granting him his boon. But again on the sixth day when first man rolled over to kiss the ruby lips of first woman, she rolled over and groaned dissent.

This time first man was not so patient. He gave her space, but silently he crept in her footsteps and followed her to the river’s gurgling stream. He watched her as she lie naked on the river’s bank where another man came to her and stole her in passionate love.

First man ran to second man, third man, fourth man, and so on and told them of first woman’s infidelity. The men, trusting first man’s authority, agreed that first woman’s betrayal was unforgivable and decided that the union forged between men and women could be no more. They prayed to earth and sky asking that woman and man be separated by worlds; in one world would be the men who could not travel to the world of women, in the other world would be the women who could not travel to the world of men. Their prayer was answered and the union between man and woman was severed.

For centuries man and woman lived in their separate worlds, bearing evil and unnatural children; today we call them hate, greed, lust, murder, and so on. These children multiplied under the horrified eyes of their parents who had forgotten that the opposite sex had ever existed.

The world became dark; sky bled and earth cried, her heaving breath terrible and magnificent. When it seemed that earth’s tears were exhausted, sky’s blood drained, and time would be annihilated, a being stepped into the land of first man and walked among them. He brought news of woman and when the memory of man was restored, man asked the being, “How is it that you know of this?” to which the being responded by showing that it was both man and woman.

Since the being was of both sexes he could travel between the two worlds. So the being traveled between the worlds and sutured the rift between man and woman and brought light back to sky and flora to earth.

Playwriting

I'm working on a play write now about Capitalism. The main character of my play is actually a dollar bill and he's doing fairly well in terms of characterization. But I fear that this play is spinning disastrously out of control. I've got a chorus of workers on strike who sit in the foreground and speak strictly in recycled verse from the poetry of Neruda, Bolano, Langston Hughes, and Bukowski. The play is definitely absurd, but so is this religious idolatry of capital that we have. The only problem is that I fear the absurdity of my play will alienate my audience. Sure, I keep it humorous, but my disdain for Capitalism is not something that my peers tend to share and I fear that the majority of the populace are so brainless that they too will not agree with my views on Capitalism. Well, I'd better get back to it.

Woman with penciled brow

Woman with penciled brow

Your icy womb was once a glorious fortress

Whose wrought-iron gates held me waiting

A witness to the party within, never a reveler

Today the portcullis is risen

All manner of visitor walk the cold hall

But where once a festive light cast jocular shadows

Only shadows remain

The heavy oaken thrown-room doors

cracked open—the one on the left leaning off its hinges

I spy within a gnarled mass and shake my saber

The edge dull from battering your stone walls

It's about a girl I once loved. My feelings were not reciprocated. Well, not entirely. She had a condition which may have, by now, necessitated a hysterectomy. I've not spoken with her in years. I think she wanted to write children's literature.

Blasted iPod touch!

Goddamnit!!! I just wrote about how I fixed the itunes installation to work with my ipod touch and the fucking window closed on me!! I'll summarize: Launch conditions must be changed in the installation file. Versions before 9.0 must be used. The ipod driver has to be manually installed and assigned through the device manager; it's installation file's launch conditions must also be changed. There! Figure it out! The only problem is that CD burning won't work unless you install the GEAR driver and itunes won't convert without having some package with the correct encoders/decoders. It's really easy.

iPod touch

I hate unnecessary technology. The fact is, however, that I'm loaded with it. I've got this computer on which I'm typing, an XBOX 360, a netbook, a tv, a microwave, a Kindle (although I'm beginning to think that this thing is absolutely necessary), and to top it off I've received and iPod touch as a gift.
I have to admit that I'm a bit enthralled with the thing though. There are all these genius apps that I just can't get over! There's one, for instance, that simulates the driving conditions of the elderly; sure, I hit cardboard cut-out children because they're hidden by my miasma and the music is atrocious, but what other game gives you the opportunity to experience old age? NONE! There's another app that lets you find all of the sex offenders in your area and it shows their picture as well as their offense! That is awesome! Let me tell you, there are quite a few here in Edmond. The coolest of all is an app that lets you use your ipod touch as a mouse and keyboard for your pc. It's completely unnecessary, but it's so cool! The only problem with it is that I foolishly wasted $2 on the damn thing because I wanted to see how the "air mouse" function works--you kind of wave your ipod around and it works somewhat like a pointer, but it's not an easy thing to do--before I realized that I'll never be using my computer from any distance that would necessitate the use of the ipod touch as a mouse!
The only thing that really sucks about my ipod is that I can't put any songs on it!!! Apparently there is no support for Windows XP 64bit, so I'm frantically trying to configure the installation files to allow me to install it anyway.
